Africa Express Train: The Journey So Far

The Africa Express Train is currently touring the UK bringing together 85 musicians from 41 different countries for a week of collaboration, performance and education.

The journey began on Sunday 2 September, as the group - including XL's Richard Russell - boarded from London's Euston Station, where impromptu jams were already starting...

The tour's first stop was Stoke on Trent for the start of many pop up workshops. Since then they have performed and given talks and workshops in Middlesbrough, Leeds, Glasgow, and also Bradford, footage of which you can watch below.

Back onboard, various artists have been collaborating and rehearsing in the train's designated rehearsal carriage, preparing for the shows each night.

So far Africa Express have performed in Middlesbrough Town Hall and Glasgow Arches, where last night Richard Russell, Damon Albarn and Remi Kabaka appeared to be enjoying their DJ duties.

Tonight the mayhem continues as the train rolls into Manchester for a show at the Ritz, before hitting Cardiff Thursday, Bristol on Friday, and reaching the final stop in London Saturday 8 September.

A few tickets are still available for remaining dates. Meanwhile you can keep up with the motley crew's activities with the Guardian rolling coverage
